just returned to Halifax after 13 years in Germany. Tried the Schinken Brot Sourdough the other day. I have decided I can remain here as long as this bakery exists.

Best bakery in the HRM. I've been going there every Saturday morning for quite a while now. The German coffee is excellent, so is the bread and pastries. Also, the staff are very friendly. Highly recommended.

i also love this bakery they make the most amazing almond rings they are so big they are to die for they are like heaven i have tried many different desserts there and have been pleased i am happy to read the reviews i have yet to try their bread i thought since it was sourdough it might be very sour but someone told me it was great so ill give that a try its such a nice spot there are few real bakeries left i was once a baker and left the profession because there is no demand anymore everything is all frozen and baked in the stores thats why i ove this spot i know its real

A beautifully quiet cafe where the world comes to a stop. The pastries and bread ... mmmm ... I just had a chocolate croissant and a bear claw and I have to say that everytime I get anything at the Gingerbread Haus I am always impressed. Oh, to be able to make pastries like that ....

The desserts and coffee are among the best I've ever tasted. It's always hard to decide what to order! However, I think that part of the reason that it's a great is due to the atmosphere. The staff is friendly and it's a quiet, simple place to talk with a friend or read a paper. It's a welcome change from the starbucks-type cafes (which involve at times large line-ups, chaos, people attempting to be trendy while texting friends and using their laptops and those ordering their non-fat vanilla soy bean lattes with foam).

The wide variety of delectable pastries is almost too much to take when you first walk into this refreshing european bakery and cafe. From start to finish our lunch and afternoon tea were lovely down to the last detail. From the freshest bread I've ever tasted, on my veggie sandwich, to a delicious cup of dark rich german blend coffee, and finally to a shared platter among my companions and I of cake, cookies and and light flakey pastries; each one a delight with finishing touches that suggest exceptional artistic flair. I must recommend the almond rings, coconut maccaroons, and a pink cream wonder called "strawberry whip torte". The service is excellent, always welcoming guests to stay for hours, and we do! We're so glad we found this little haven where we can relax and treat ourselves, we can't wait to go back. Everyone needs a retreat to escape to for celebration, solitude, or meeting old friends.
It's a special place.

Gingerbread Haus Bakery is the nicest and best bakery in eastern Canada. They serve beautiful and delicious pastries and fantastic European style bread. You can enjoy a rich cup of coffee in their cozy cafe with your pastry or lunch. I Love this place!!!
